This step shows how to import information from another
application. This step is useful when transferring existing data to
RollCall. It avoids having to key all the data.
Use the Export option on the File menu to export a
text file that contains only one record of heading information. Select
the table to export and enter a filename for the data. The order and
content of the exported file is a template for importing data into
RollCall. The Import will use this format for adding data to the
database.
Next,
export information from your existing application using the same order
of fields as in the RollCall export. If your existing application has a
different order, missing information or extra information, use any
spreadsheet application or text editor to alter the data - a
spreadsheet program will be easiest.
Save the updated information to the same file name, with double quotes
surrounding text fields and a carriage return/line feed at the end of
each record. The file save type is usually either 'txt' or 'csv'.
Open the File->Import window and select the table to import. Update the file name, if needed, and import the
data.
